I have been a painter most of my life. I attended the San Francisco Art Institute and went on to get my degree at San Francisco State. I feel that my work has really taken off in the past few years and has evolved into a style I can call my own. I am a disciplined and ambitious painter who loves to paint primarily choosing oil over other mediums. I feel restless when I am not engaged in a work in progress and wrestling with the possibilities that painting brings like color, composition and the ever present question “What is it I am trying to say here?”. I usually start with a photo I have taken. The photo captures a moment in time that could easily be overlooked, forgotten, as it is very ordinary. I am drawn to subjects and scenes that are not the usual images seen and described in paintings but for me hold a unique poetry all their own. I see a story I want to explore. As I work that story is born from the colors and details I find and focus on. At some point the work seems to find its own life when it has answered all my questions. Whatever I wanted and experienced was now found in all these lines, shapes and colors.
I want my work to speak to people. I hope these images speak to you.
